The annual The Knot Real Weddings 2016 Study surveys couples across the United States on pretty much every aspect of their wedding planning. (The study surveys more than 13,000 couples who had to have been married in 2016.) We learn a lot about what’s trending, and get great insight on recently married couple’s planning in the past year. Think: spending habits, length of engagement, and number of guests hooks ups (seriously).
One of our favorite trends to watch (and one you should be definitely keeping track of) are the top wedding colors. We’ve seen a noticeable shift (no doubt fueled by Pinterest and Instagram) of color schemes in the past 5-10 years. And this shouldn’t surprise you that the colors of today are much softer than they used to be.
The top 4 wedding colors from our 2016 study are… ivory, light pink, gold, and navy blue.
Any of these surprise you? Now that you know the hues, know this: Your marketing and promotional materials will be far more effective if the colors and images you use match the ones that are trending. We’re not saying you have to ONLY use these colors. But it would be a good idea to find ways to subtle ways to incorporate these into your marketing strategy. Here, three easy ways to play up the top 4 wedding colors.
1. Team up for an editorial collaboration.
Check ’em out: Sweetlife Photography curated this editorial shoot- a collaboration with other local Portland vendors- to celebrate the launch of their blog. The shoot features all four of this year’s top wedding colors and is totally trendy. The best part? Sweetlife Photography gives credit to all their partners on the post, with links.
Make It Happen: Take a page out of their book and team up with your vendor squad to create a beautiful “mock” wedding. Editorial style shoots are a great opportunity to show your talents and flex your creative muscles — all while gaining amazing (on-trend) content for sharing.
2. Tout the colors on social media.
Check ’em out: Lola Grace Bridal posted these gorgeous dark blue shoes to their Instagram account, and used the hashtag #somethingblue. FYI: they totally nailed it. You should know by now that you need to be frequently posting on the heavy hitting social media platforms (repeat after me: Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook).
Make It Happen: Focus on posting and pinning images that feature these top 4 colors to beef up your account. On Instagram, hashtag the colors (eg, #navyweddingideas), or shout them out in the captions of your pins to drive extra traffic to your photos.
3. Refresh your logo/website.
Check ’em out: Steve’s Flower Market used an image with ivory and gold accents as the background of their website homepage. Note: the text is still readable, but the image makes the page super visually appealing. Their site is totally color coordinated- showing potential clients that they have a strong, on-trend brand.
Make It Happen: Updating your photos or banner images is an easy change to make if you use a hosting site like SqureSpace or WordPress.
