Our bi-annual Jewelry & Engagement Study got to know 12,000 US brides and 1,200 US grooms engaged or recently married in 2014 and early 2015. We’ve uncovered key financial spending habits and proposal trends in America, check out some of this year’s trends for proposals and wedding jewelry:

Spending is on the rise (and she knows it!)
  • Men are spending an average of $5,978 (up from $5,403 in 2011)
  • 68% of women know how much he spent on the ring
She gets what she wants
  •  67% of brides began searching rings before getting engaged
  • 43% browsed rings on their mobile device
  • 36% told him exactly what they want
Proposals are going public
  • 45% of grooms are proposing in a public place (up from 34% in 2011)
They’re capturing the moment & using social media to spread the news!
  • 41% of men had a photographer or videographer capture the proposal as it happened
  • 79% of couples shared the news on social media within 3 days
Quality over quantity
  • 85% of men would rather buy a smaller, better quality diamond than a larger stone of lesser quality
  • 57% of brides admit they’d rather have a smaller, better quality diamond than a larger stone of lesser quality
Customization is crucial
  • 45% of men are adding personal elements to the engagement ring
