Wedding Trends by Region

We like to know what brides are up to, and we know you do too! That’s why we conduct an annual real weddings study to know the latest wedding trends from every region of the US. Responses are from over 17,500 brides who were married between January 1 and December 31, 2012.

On a national level, brides are sophisticated, educated, and have an average household income of $84,206.  The grooms are mature and busy with 83% holding full-time jobs.

The average wedding costs $36,045. Most weddings take place in the summer after an average 13.8 month engagement. The guest list includes approximately 139 attendees who are dressed for a semi-formal celebration.

  • Age: 28.9 (Median 25.3)
  • Education: 82% graduated college
  • Employment: 85% employed
    (74% full-time – 8% part-time – 3% self-employed)
  • HHI: Average $84,206
    (Median $61,733 – 48% over $75K – 30% over $100K)

  • Age: 30.6 (Median 26.4)
  • Employment: 92% employed
    (83% full-time – 4% part-time – 5% self-employed)

  • Season of Wedding: 39% Summer
    (34% Fall – 22% Spring – 5% Winter)
  • Style of Wedding: 63% Semi-Formal
    (17% Formal – 17% Casual)
  • Cost of Wedding (excludes honeymoon): $28,427
