This week our Weddings Photo Director, the lovely Ms. Rebecca Crumley, chatted with us about best practices for choosing and managing your business’s photos. She covered what makes a good photo (think straightforward shots, natural lighting, the correct exposure) and how to choose photos for your businesses different needs–from getting published in a magazine to choosing photos for your website and advertisements.
Rebecca emphasized how important it is to choose photos for your marketing materials and website that reflect your style and that will attract the kinds of customers you want to work with in the future. When posting images online it’s important to be aware of the risks of piracy, but you can take several steps to protect your images. Rebecca recommends:
- Use metadata to embed your business information into the photo
- Use a subtle watermark or your logo to identify the photo with your business (just don’t distract from the image itself)
- If you find your image being used by someone else, ask them to credit you and link back to you–we find most people are happy to comply!
